Not Quite Yet

A few signs that you might not be ready yet to return to your novel-in-progress after giving birth:

Coffee doesn't seem to have quite the same uplifting rise 'n shine sort of effect you remember.

You get weepy watching the lead change in the first quarter of an NBA playoff game.

Your reading life consists of Curley the Pig and Peter Cottontail. (While Beatrix Potter was a fine author, she does nothing to stoke your creative fire.)

Your conversational ability has diminished to gibberish - some of which rhymes, or at least seems to while spoken in a sing-songy tone.

Your alone time is limited to the bathroom...assuming you remember to lock the door.

doh! And I've heard-tell of women who wrote entire novels in the bathroom because it was the one place their children knew their mother could go and (A) they couldn't disturb her and (B) they didn't freak out because they knew she wouldn't be gone for long. ... although I suppose that works better when there's not an infant involved. :)
